If you think you're a great backgammon player, this is your chance to prove it. Backgammon Cash Tournaments let you compete against multiple opponents in a series of matches, with real money prizes waiting for the players who can put together a win streak. Instead of playing one match and walking away, you have to beat your opponent, advance to the next round, and do it again.

Win several matches in a row and you can make it all the way to the final and take home a big real-money prize.

How Backgammon Cash Tournaments Work

The concept is simple. You pay an entry fee to join a tournament and enter the first-round lobby. Once you're matched with another player, you play your match.

Win and you advance. Lose and your tournament run is over - but you can buy back in and try again.

This means that tournaments are "open-ended". There are no set amount of players and each tournament can have multiple champions.

To win the tournament, you need to win three matches in a row.

What Can You Win?

Tournament entry fees can vary, although $100 is a common entry fee.

The potential prize depends on the entry fee and the number of players in the tournament. Most tournaments will award approximately 5x–10x the entry fee to 1st place and 2x the entry fee to 2nd place, depending on the tournament structure.

The exact entry fee and payouts are displayed before you enter, so you'll know what you're playing for.

You Can Buy Back In

Losing doesn't mean you're done forever.

Since Backgammon Cash Tournaments are open-ended, you can enter again as many times as you'd like. Lose in Round 1? Buy back in and try again. Make it to Round 2 but lose? Buy back in and start another run.

The goal is to win the number of matches necessary in a row to reach the final. It doesn't matter how many attempts it takes you to get there.

Finding an Opponent

One of the most important parts of an online tournament is finding the next person to play. We've built Tournaments to make this as easy as possible.

Each round has a lobby showing how many players are currently waiting in that round.

When you're ready to play, you can search for an opponent. Every player in that round will be notified that you're looking for a match.

You can also simply wait. If another player starts searching for an opponent, you'll receive a notification. This is so you don't have to sit there constantly refreshing the lobby hoping someone else happens to be online at the same time.

That said, tournaments are played by real people, so there may be times when you have to wait for another player to become available. A little patience may be required, particularly in later rounds when fewer players remain.

Tournament Matches Are Multi-Point Matches

Tournaments aren't made up of single games. Each round is a Points match, typically played to either 5 or 7 points.

The length can vary from round to round. Earlier rounds may use 5-point matches, while later rounds may use 7-point matches. The final is typically played to 7 points.

That means getting through a tournament takes more than winning one lucky game.

You need to win the match, then you need to do it again, and again, until you've made it to the top.

Why Tournaments Are Different From Regular Matches

There's something different about knowing that every match determines whether you keep going.

In a regular Backgammon Cash match, you play your opponent and the match ends.

In a tournament, winning means you have another opponent waiting for you.

The pressure builds as you advance.

You might start with a first-round match against one type of player, then face someone with a completely different style in Round 2. By the time you reach the final, you've already proven you can win several matches... but there's still one more opponent standing between you and the prize.

That's what makes tournament play exciting.

How to Get Started

If you're eligible to play Backgammon Cash, getting into a tournament is simple.

Open the latest version of the Backgammon Cash app and select Tournaments.

From there, you'll be able to see the available tournaments, entry fees, player counts, rounds, and potential prizes.

Choose your tournament, enter the lobby, and start looking for your opponent.
