Backgammon Cash
Gammon Games 🎲
Gammons and backgammons are a fundamental part of traditional backgammon, influencing checker play decisions, cube actions, and overall strategy throughout every match. Gammon Games is our optional cash game mode that brings this element to Backgammon Cash, awarding additional prize money for gammon and backgammon results in single point cash games. This page covers everything you need to know about how Gammon Games work, including prize multipliers, eligibility requirements, service fees, and payout limits. Gammon Games follow all standard Backgammon Cash rules with the additions outlined below.
Prize Multipliers
In a Gammon Game, the margin of your victory determines your payout. A standard win awards the base prize only. A gammon win awards the base prize plus an additional amount equal to the base entry amount. A backgammon win awards the base prize plus an additional amount equal to twice the base entry amount.
Jacoby Rule
In Gammon Games, the Jacoby Rule is enabled. This means that 2x and 3x prize multipliers are only awarded if the doubling cube has been accepted at least once during the match.
Service Fees
Standard entry fee service charges apply to both players as in all cash games. In the event of a gammon or backgammon, the winner pays a 10% service fee on the gammon or backgammon award amount. The loser does not pay an additional service fee on top of their gammon or backgammon obligation.
Minimum Balance Requirement
To enter a Gammon Game, you must have a minimum account balance of 12x the entry fee at the time the game begins (listed on the lobby). This requirement exists to ensure all players can cover the most possible payout scenarios, which includes a 4x doubling cube combined with a backgammon result.
The Maximum Fee
At the start of every Gammon Game, a Maximum Fee is established based on the lower of the two players' starting balances. This figure represents the most either player can be obligated to pay across the entire match, including entry fees, cube doubles, and any gammon or backgammon award. No player will ever be charged more than the Maximum Fee regardless of the game result.
In rare cases where the cube reaches a very high level and a gammon or backgammon occurs, the additional award may be reduced or may not be awarded at all if the Maximum Fee has already been reached through prior entry fees and cube doubles. The match result is still recorded accurately in all cases.
The Doubling Cube
The doubling cube functions the same as in standard cash games. Stakes can only be raised up to the level that both players can cover, using the lower of the two players' balances as the ceiling. This ensures equal maximum exposure for both players at all times. The current cube value and its effect on the maximum potential payout are visible on the gameplay screen throughout the match.
Technical Interruptions
If a Gammon Game ends due to a technical interruption on our end before a result is reached, both players receive a full refund of their entry fee and any amounts awarded will be adjusted by the Backgammon Cash team. No gammon or backgammon award is given for incomplete matches regardless of board position at the time of interruption. For full details see our Terms of Service
